Pre-event workshops

Global Refining 2008 features a choice of 4 essential workshops on the day before the main conference, Monday 21st April.  These interactive sessions focus in on some of the most important issues in the refining business.

Safety and security in refining:
The health, safety and security of employees and those who come into contact with operations and products is, naturally, the highest priority in oil and gas companies. Goals are clear – no accidents, no harm to people and no damage to the environment. This workshop evaluates best practice in how to create a work culture where health and safety is paramount.

Attracting and retaining staff:
Human capital is the most vital resource in the oil and gas industry and yet it is among the scarcest. At this highly interactive workshop, speakers and delegates will get the opportunity to discuss the number one challenge to the industry – both now and in the future. Join experts and specialists to share best practices and strategies for success.

Integrating Biofuel into the refinery:
The integration of Biofuel into the refinery operations of major fuel producers has posed technical and commercial challenges that require new ways of planning, producing, blending and storing on-spec fuels.  Refiners are in the process of reconfiguring operations which are fundamental to their sites and necessitate significant investment outlays in both technology and capital. This workshop will review the latest developments within the industry and examine how it can contribute to bottom line margins.

The case for CO2 capture:
Carbon dioxide (CO2) storage is the placement of CO2 into a repository in such a way that it will remain stored and not release in to the atmosphere. Efforts to store CO2 are focused on two categories: Geologic formations and terrestrial ecosystems. This workshop discusses the case for CO2 capture and the benefits and challenges encountered and what it means for the industry moving forward.
